TENETS

DESIGN

Design is the passion behind all creativity and the driver of FDG. Solving 3-dimensional programmatic puzzles to improve the user experience forms the base of conceptual exploration. Assisting clients and developers in understanding and planning expectations is a foundation of project goals that blossoms into the design and exploration of greater goals. Design is the process in which sustainability, community, and collaboration are brought together to provide design direction to meet client goals, aspirations, and ROI.

SUSTAINABILITY

Through a community of planning principals, design ideals, civic and municipal involvements, and the collaborative process, being part of a “community” is a FDG goal in planning, from the micro-individualized project development of users to its macro impact on adjacent neighbors, within the city, representation of the country, or the world stage. Building community is a consciousness of your impact on the world you live in and a goal of how you look to represent your project and ideals. Building community lifts everyone.

COLLABORATION

Sustainability ensures future development, a positive impact on the world, and stewardship of our community, a core tenet behind all design efforts of the FDG. From initial conceptual discussions through design, planning, and construction, FDG works with clients, consultants, and contractors to incorporate sustainable practices, materials, and systems into the proposed design direction. Renewable Energy, carbon sequestration, adaptive reuse, passive house, biodiversity, and local sourcing are sustainable elements that support the design and enhance the project and user experience.

COMMUNITY

Collaboration is essential for all parties to “own " the project. FDG welcomes the input and engagement of clients, consultants, contractors, and all other stakeholders/participants in the development of a project in meetings and design presentations. This collaborative effort may often need to extend beyond the confines of the development group, requiring community participation, civic review, and municipal input. FDG aims to build a broad consensus to support the project and guide the approvals process.

FDG Footprint

Environmental Impact

FDG is a leader in environmentally sustainable designs and planning. These same principles are tenets in the fabric of all FDG work. Maintaining a small environmental footprint through thoughtful design practices, careful coordination of systems, and attention to the selection of materials is just part of the process. To be truly sustainable, design must also address economic and cultural factors that make projects successful well into the future. Working closely with clients, consultants, contractors, and Cities / Towns, FDG helps lead the process.

Sourcing local materials, designing strategies to promote light and air quality, supporting biodiversity within a site to sustain existing ecosystems, and using biophilic design to maintain and strengthen our connection with nature enhance user experience, improve design quality, and promote conscientious future development through example.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

FDG leads in the development of master plans and the transformation of communities, which requires a special attention to the social responsibilities of our practice. FDG works with Clients and their communities through local planning & zoning, Infrastructure, approvals, and community consensus-building to meet project demands while attending to the project's impacts on the existing urban and socio-economic fabric of the adjacent community. FDG considers the needs of the client and their users as well as the community that the design is part of. FDG emphasizes socially responsible designs that are functional, user-friendly, and inclusive of the community the projects serve. Great design lifts everyone and is a compass for new and future work.
